  • At the Salt Lake City meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to approve installation of a green roof demonstration project on the ASLA headquarters building. The Green Roof Task Force is completing work on a Request for Qualifications for design services for the roof. The RFQ will be distributed to ASLA members’ firms and publicized in LAND Online and on the website.
  • ASLA is included as a technical advisor in a joint National Governors Association (NGA)/Urban Land Institute (ULI) proposal for administering the Governors’ Institute on Regional Design, a new program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
  • ASLA staff met with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to discuss how ASLA members can increase their involvement with the USGBC and encourage development of a site-only LEED standard.

  • The Executive Committee voted to hold the 2008 annual meeting in Philadelphia on October 24-28. The Pennsylvania/Delaware Chapter is very excited to be hosting this annual meeting. Get ready to roll up those sleeves and pitch in to make this an annual meeting that will never be forgotten!!!
  • The Executive Committee decided to research only one city, Chicago, IL, for the 2009 annual meeting. This year is the centennial of the 1909 Plan of Chicago, a visionary statement that defined the city and changed urban planning worldwide.
  • 45 private firms, public agencies, and academic institutions participated in JobLink LIVE at the 2004 ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Salt Lake City. Ten firms and one academic institution gave presentations about projects and opportunities. More than 100 candidates seeking positions from internships to mid-level landscape architects participated in onsite interviews and presentations.
  • ASLA is working with Metropolis magazine to offer members a special subscription rate.  A link to the offer on the Metropolis web site will be added to the ASLA home page and an email will be sent to members to notify them of the offer. 
  • ASLA is developing a new career discovery brochure to replace the out of print “Places in the Heart” brochure. To keep costs down and reduce waste, the brochure will be posted online in .pdf format for chapters and members to download and print as needed.
  • The new ASLA logo-wear was very well received at the annual meeting and staff is working with the catalogue company to post the items for online ordering. Eventually, more items will be made available in a variety of colors and types.
  • The ASLA Press Room was very popular at the annual meeting, with 22 media representatives receiving credentials. In addition to national industry publications, the meeting was covered by local television, radio, and print media, as well as XM Satellite Radio.
