ASLA National Professional Development Programs on ASLA Online
ASLA provides professional development opportunities for landscape
architects using online learning formats. That means that no matter
where you are, day or night if you have access to the internet,
you can remain current on the latest developments in landscape
architecture. Landscape architects can participate in live Online
Desktop seminars, view archived versions of the live seminars
or read Landscape Architecture Technical Information Series (LATIS)
publications and complete a self-study exam to earn professional
develop hours. Online Desktop seminars are worth 1.5 Professional
Development Hours and LATIS publications are worth 5 PDHs. Members
can access LATIS through the Professional Practice Library of
ASLA Online (www.asla.org
- make sure to log in as a member) and Desktop seminars at: http://www.asla.org/desktop.htm.
It is easy to register for a Desktop Seminar. Just print out the
registration form and mail or fax your completed form back to
ASLA national.
Currently, there are five LATIS publications on line and 40 Desktop
seminars. Topics include Security Design, Context Sensitive Solutions,
Stream Restoration and Therapeutic Gardens.

- The radio public service announcements ( PSA) highlighting the economic benefits of landscape architecture improvements are still getting air play. Each PS A promotes the ASLA website and Firm Finder as a resource for finding a landscape architect. As of August 21, 2003 , the PS As aired 493 times on 473 radio stations in 43 states with an audience of 94,758,398 listeners. The cities in which this aired include New York, NY, San Francisco , CA , and Chicago, IL.
- Public Relations Manager Lofton worked with a reporter from the Washington Times on a story about water gardens that appeared in the August 20, 2003 issue and features Sunny Scully, FASLA, James van Sweden, FASLA, and Rob Tilson, ASLA. http://www.washtimes.com/metro/20030819-102317-6733r.htm
- As of August 27, 344 full registrations and 60 spouse registrations have been received for the 2003 annual meeting.
- For the first time, ASLA has a sold-out EXPO floor with a waiting list! A total of 639 booths have been sold.
- ASLA helped sponsor distribution of the Surface Transportation Policy Project's latest report on transportation and clean air released at a press conference on Monday. The new report, Clearing the Air, Public Health Threats from Cars and Heavy Duty Vehicles - Why We Need to Protect Federal Clean Air Laws ranks metropolitan areas by the highest number of days of unhealthy air pollution levels. - Legislative Affairs Director Cara Welch presented the Security Design Coalition mission and activities at a monthly meeting of The Infrastructure Security Partnership (TISP) held at the US Army Corp Of Engineers (USACE) Office in Washington, DC . At the meeting Welch offered the Security Design Coalition's services in making sure the aesthetic elements of security design are properly addressed in any criteria or guidance.
