- ASLA submitted comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to draft model green construction documents developed for federal agencies. EPA is now requesting public comments under a 60-day review of the newly named and revised Draft Federal Guide for Green Construction Specs. Under Executive Order 13101, EPA is responsible for providing information to federal agencies to assist them in practicing environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP). Your feedback is critical to the tool's quality and success. Please refer to FRL7363-5, http://www.epa.gov/fedrgstr/EPA-PEST/2004/July/Day-28/p16946.htm, EPA Docket # OPPT-2004-0092, for instructions for providing comments on this new draft.
- ASLA exhibited at the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting in Salt Lake City. Manager Julia Lent was joined by a large contingent of Utah chapter volunteers who supplied local examples of landscape architecture for the booth and answered many of the lawmakers’ questions about the profession.
- ASLA will be a sponsor of the 4th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth: Building Safe, Healthy and Livable Communities Conference that will be held in Miami Beach on January 27-29, 2005. Penn State and the Local Government Commission organize the conference. We are working to make sure that landscape architects are among the speakers.
