  • Fourteen firms responded to the request for qualifications for the ASLA headquarters green roof. The Green Roof Task Force is in the process of reviewing the statements of qualifications to develop a short list. Interviews with the short-listed firms will be held in early February.

  • In response to inquiries from members, web editor Dave Connell has posted information on the ASLA home page, www.asla.org, about how to contribute to assist the victims of the tsunami. This article and another one on the long-term expectations for recovery appear in the January 10 issue of LAND Online. ASLA will continue to monitor the recovery efforts and will partner with allied organizations to develop an appropriate, coordinated response. Members will be informed of opportunities to contribute professional expertise as more information becomes available.

  • We are very pleased to announce that Carolyn Mitchell, is joining the ASLA staff. She will coordinate the honors and awards programs, market JobLink, and provide administrative support to the PR and Resource Development Department. Mitchell may be reached at 202-216-2331 or cmitchell@asla.org.

  • ASLA received twelve proposals for LATIS papers to be published quarterly in 2005. The twelve authors responded to the ASLA call for proposals issued in the fall. The twelve proposals are being reviewed by an advisory panel of six volunteers from the Professional Practice Institute (PPI), the Council on Education (COE), and the Professional Interest (PI) Group Council. The four authors who will be invited to develop LATIS papers for publication by ASLA in 2005 will be notified by January 14, 2005.

  • The Fall/Winter 2004 TherapeuticGarden Design professional interest group newsletter has been released and is posted on the group’s website at http://host.asla.org/groups/tgdpigroup/newsletter.htm.

     
  • A membership milestone was achieved with the coming of the New Year. ASLA’s total membership now exceeds 15,000 members. That’s almost seven percent growth from 2003 year-end totals.
